Steamboat Springs, CO – September 2025 – Over Labor Day weekend, the Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball Complex came alive with fierce competition, vibrant community spirit, and a shared purpose: to STOP Alzheimer’s NOW. The 2025 Steamboat Open Charity Pickleball Tournament successfully raised more than $80,000 for Stop Alzheimer’s Now (SAN), pushing the organization’s cumulative fundraising total past the $1 million milestone—a monumental achievement for the small but mighty nonprofit.
Proceeds from the tournament will directly support cure-focused Alzheimer’s research grants. With 100% of registration fees benefiting SAN, players and spectators alike made a lasting impact in the fight against this devastating disease.
The tournament’s success is a testament to the collaboration of the Steamboat community. SAN’s founder, Shaun McDuffee, a part-time Steamboat resident, has been a longtime supporter of both the pickleball complex and the broader community. Local residents Scott Lee and Jayson Harris, who also serve on the SAN Board of Directors, were instrumental in making the event a reality.
“We’re building more than just a tournament—we’re building hope for a future without Alzheimer’s,” said McDuffee. “Reaching the $1 million mark is proof of what can happen when a community comes together with passion and purpose.” -Shaun McDuffee, founder of Stop Alzheimer’s Now.
This year’s tournament was also a Nationals Qualifier, attracting top-tier pickleball talent and elevating the level of play across three days of sunshine, camaraderie, and spirited matches. The event would not have been possible without the generosity of its sponsors: Midland, Penn Mutual, Nationwide, and AssetMark. Their support helped make the Steamboat Open a powerful force for good, both on and off the courts.
For Stop Alzheimer’s Now, every dollar raised is another step toward a world without Alzheimer’s disease—a world where families are spared the heartbreak, and where research leads to cures, not just treatments.
Stop Alzheimer’s Now (SAN) is a nonprofit dedicated to funding cure-focused Alzheimer’s disease research. Through community events and grassroots fundraising, SAN has raised over $1 million to support groundbreaking research that aims to end Alzheimer’s once and for all.
